COVID-19 has taken another casualty in the live music space after the Pre-Orange Bowl Concert that was due to host performances from Harry Styles and Khalid were cancelled earlier this week.

The concert was due to take place at Lummus Park in South Beach, Florida on Dec. 30, just one day before the College Football Playoff semi-final game between the Georgia Bulldogs and Michigan Wolverines.

“Due to increasing logistical and production challenges related to the pandemic and after consultation with the artists and their production teams, we have jointly made the difficult decision to cancel the Capital One Beach Bash originally scheduled for December 30, 2021 on South Beach at Lummus Park,” reads a statement from Capital One. “While we are disappointed to not host the concert, we are excited for a great Playoff Semifinal game at the Capital One Orange Bowl.”

The Concert is the latest event to be cancelled due to the surge of the new Omicron variant. Just last week iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour organisers axed the Miami stop all together due to public concerns. Elsewhere in the world, the UK has re-introduced face masks requirements in night club and concert venues to help fight off the brutal disease.

It would have been Harry Styles first performance off the back of his 42-stop world Love On tour that came to an end in November, which was in support of his sophomore album Fine Line. Here’s to hoping next year is a lot brighter and cancelations of concerts are few and far between.
